The settings are split across sub-tabs so each part is easy to find.\n\n| Tab | What it does |\n|-----|-------------|\n| **Map Preview** | See how the map will look, choose colours, filter groups, and save presets |\n| **Groups** | Manage which groups appear, their boundaries, and individual colours |\n| **Neighbouring Areas** | Choose which neighbouring areas share a border with your area |\n| **Geographic Data** | Upload boundary data and set the default map position and zoom |\n| **Parish Allocations** | Manage parish footpath observer assignments (covered in its own guide) |\n\n## Choosing colours\n\nEach group on the map has its own colour, set in one of two ways.\n\n### Colour palettes\nThe quickest approach is the **Colour Palette** dropdown on the Map Preview tab. Choose from 19 palettes, including Ramblers, Pastel, Ocean, Sunset and Forest, and the colours apply to every visible group at once. Each palette shows its swatches in the dropdown so you can preview before selecting. If you like the palette but not the exact arrangement, click **Reapply** to shuffle the colours. Your last chosen palette is remembered for next time.\n\n### Individual colours\nYou can also change a single group's colour using the colour picker next to it in the Groups table. The new colour is taken from your currently selected palette.\n\n## Map preview and presets\n\nThe **Map Preview** tab shows exactly how the map will look to visitors.\n\n* **Filtering groups** - use the **Group filter** to choose which groups appear. You can select all, none, or specific groups.\n* **Saving presets** - once you have a group selection and palette you like, save it as a **named preset**. This makes it easy to switch between configurations, for example one preset showing all groups and another showing just your local cluster. Presets are saved to your system settings and persist between sessions. The active preset is highlighted; to remove one, click its delete button and confirm.\n\n## Group boundaries and geographic data\n\nBy default, group boundaries follow local authority districts. If a group's walking area does not match those boundaries, upload a **custom shapefile (.zip)** on the **Groups** tab and the boundary polygon will be matched to that group.
