{"id":"665a4bd66c203c0019a3fd38","title":"Subscribing Members","path":"how-to/committee/email-articles/subscribing-members","contentMarkdown":"# Subscribing Members to Mailing Lists\nThere are two ways that members can be subscribed to mailing lists - **Automatic** and **Manual**. These are now explained in more detail.\n## Automatic subscription\n* As described in more detail in [Mailing List Configuration](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/how-to/committee/email-articles/mail-settings/mailing-list-configuration), there are **Auto-subscribe new members** checkboxes associated with each of your mailing lists. When Members are added to the database via the [Bulk Load Process](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/admin/member-bulk-load), the subscription happens during this process.\n* Note that the subscription process **does not** contact the member in any way (e.g. sending them an email). Contact is made only when a committee member in your group sends out emails. The subscription process is merely the sending of contact data from your website to Brevo.\n* Below is a screenshot of the [Lists tab](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/admin/mail-settings?tab=lists):\n\n\n![](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/api/aws/s3/site-content/c24538af-e77c-47eb-9d85-dbf46299ba60.png)\n\n* Note that the **Auto-subscribe new members** checkbox should be checked for your \"All members\" list, and unchecked for special lists such as Walk leaders and Committee, which you would manually subscribe members to. See below on how to do this.\n
\n\n## Manual subscription\n* In [Member Admin](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/admin/members/member-admin), the Member Administrator can edit any member, click on the **Brevo** tab and then check the required subscription checkboxes, and then **Save** the member.\n* Repeat for as many members as you want to make subscription changes to.\n* In order to keep Brevo up to date with these subscription changes, it's necessary to click **Update Brevo Mailing Lists** button on the [Member Admin](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/admin/members/member-admin) page.\n\n![](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/api/aws/s3/site-content/c28d648b-4a6e-493b-a059-6bf0449e8c4b.jpg)\n\n* The Member can login and and visit their [Email subscriptions](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/admin/email-subscriptions) page, make changes to their subscription checkboxes and click **Save Changes**.\n\n\n![](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/api/aws/s3/site-content/484f055c-c8a6-4d15-9994-f10e85f27804.png)\n\n## Unsubscribing \nUnsubscribing can occur as a result of any of the following 4 processes:\n* By the Member Administrator manually unchecking checkboxes in Member admin as per the screen above.\n* When members have already been bulk deleted as a result of leaving the group or their membership expiring, and the **Update Brevo Mailing Lists** button is clicked in [Member Admin](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/admin/members/member-admin).\n\n\n* By the logged-in member themselves visiting [Email subscriptions](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/admin/email-subscriptions) page and unchecking the subscription checkbox(es).\n* By the member clicking the unsubscribe button on any email they receive - see screenshot to the right where this link can be found:\n\n![](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/api/aws/s3/site-content/62a51bd1-e7c5-418e-b2df-86f2241a0e49.jpg)","contentHtml":"
