If your group runs a mix of activities - regular walks, holidays away, working parties, coach trips - you can now tag each event with a category and have separate pages that show only the events you want.

For example, you could have a Holidays page that lists every event tagged Holiday, and a What's on page that quietly leaves those out so it stays focused on the day-to-day walks. The events themselves still live in one place; the tags just decide which page they appear on.

There are three short steps to get this working on your site.

Step 1 - Define your tag list

Go to Admin > System Settings > Area & Group and scroll down to the Event Tags section. Click + add tag for each category you want, and give it a name like Holiday, Coach Trip or Working Party. The Sort Index controls the order tags appear in - leave it blank if you don't mind.

Click Save when you're happy with the list. Tags can be renamed or deleted at any time without breaking the events that use them.

Step 2 - Tag your events

When you create or edit a group event, you'll see a new Tags field beneath the description. Click into it and pick from the list of tags you defined. You can add as many tags as you like to a single event - useful if a holiday week is also a coach trip, for example.

If you start typing a name that isn't in the list yet, the field offers to create it on the fly, so you don't always have to go back to System Settings.

Step 3 - Filter the events that show on a page

The final piece is telling each page which tagged events to include or exclude. When you put a site into Edit site mode and edit any page that has an Events row, the row's settings now have two extra pickers:

• Include any of these tags - the events row will only show events tagged with one of these. Leave it empty to show every event.
• Exclude these tags - hide events tagged with any of these.

A Holidays page would set Include any to Holiday. A general What's on page might set Exclude to Holiday and Working Party so those don't crowd the day-to-day list.

Untagged events are treated leniently - they pass through Exclude filters by default, so an unfiltered events row continues to show everything as before.

What about the events I already have?

Existing events are untouched - they have no tags by default. You only need to start tagging if you want to split your event list across multiple pages. If you don't, your events row keeps working exactly as it always has.
