Committee files: clearer viewing and downloading

We have made it clearer and quicker to open committee documents (agendas, minutes, financial statements and the like) from the committee page.

Every committee document now shows a colour-coded icon for its file type - red for PDF, blue for Word, green for Excel, and so on.

Click a file to choose what to do

Click a document and a small menu opens. It shows the document's type, title and date at the top, then two choices:

• View in new tab - opens the document straight away so you can read it without leaving the page.
• Download - saves a copy to your device, keeping the document's original filename.

Clicking a file opens a menu showing the document's details, then View in new tab and Download.

What opens where

• PDFs and images open in a new browser tab so you can read them on the spot. Previously a click always downloaded them.
• Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents open in a free Microsoft online viewer in a new tab, so you can read them without that software installed.
• Download is always available when you would rather keep your own copy.

For committee administrators

Nothing changes about managing files. The Edit, Send Email and Delete buttons appear on each file as before - the new view and download menu simply sits alongside them.

Administrators still have Edit, Send Email and Delete on each file.
