22-Jul-2026 — keep self-allocated walk leaders on save, markdown-rendered descriptions, Display Name... #280
What's new
Three fixes for walk leaders and descriptions. Allocating yourself an empty slot and saving used to silently drop your leader details, leaving the walk read-only to the leader who had just taken it on - self-allocation is now persisted and the walk stays editable. Walks Manager descriptions that contain markdown links render properly everywhere instead of showing raw or escaped brackets. A walk's own leader now sees their Display Name, and change emails show a friendly route-file name instead of a raw storage id.

Walk Configuration includes the required leader display-name setting alongside self-service and approval controls
At a glance
- allocating yourself an empty slot and saving keeps you as leader with edit access, instead of dropping the leader details and leaving the walk read-only to you
- walks already saved with the leader only in the Ramblers walk_leader field stay editable by that leader, with no data repair needed
- Walks Manager descriptions containing markdown links now render properly in the walk view, edit preview and details, instead of showing raw text or escaped [text](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/url)
- a walk's own leader now sees their Display Name on the Leader tab, not just admins
- route files picked from the existing-routes list show a friendly name in change emails instead of a raw UUID storage name
