social+editor: album sharing defaults, settings links and editing screen tidy-ups (#16, #303, #338)
What's new
When a walk photo album is created from the walks page, Allow Share To Social Media is now switched on automatically if your site already has Facebook or Instagram publishing configured. Previously every new album arrived with sharing off, so someone had to remember to turn it on before the Share panel appeared. Sites that have not set up social publishing are unaffected — the setting stays off, exactly as before.
Where the Share panel says publishing is not configured yet, System Settings is now a link that takes you straight to the Social Media settings, rather than text telling you where to go and leaving you to find it.
Alongside that, several small inconsistencies in the editing screens have been put right.
The page editing screen no longer repeats the save controls at the foot of the form. Now that the save bar stays with you as you scroll, the second copy at the bottom was doing nothing useful.
In the image cropper, the buttons are evenly spaced. The save image button used to sit flush against the button to its left, with no gap at all, which looked like a mistake next to the even spacing everywhere else. The two rows of buttons now line up with each other, and on a phone they show two per row instead of six, so the captions are readable rather than cut off mid-word.
The small controls that appear over an action button card — drag, move up, move down and delete — no longer have a dark outline, so they match every other badge button on the site.
On forms with Save, Undo changes and Exit, the Exit button now does something when you click it: it saves and exits. Previously it only opened a menu, with no default action. The arrow beside it still opens that menu if you want Save and exit spelled out, or Exit without saving.
When editing a column's content, the frame around it now shows its full top border. The row of column controls used to sit across the top edge on a white background, hiding most of the border.
At a glance
- Albums created from a walk have sharing enabled when either Facebook or Instagram publishing is on
- Albums created on sites without social publishing configured are unchanged
- Both "not configured" messages in the Share panel link to External Systems with the Social Media sub-tab selected
- Page content editing shows one set of save actions, in the bar that stays visible while scrolling
- Cropper buttons are evenly spaced, including save image, whether or not they wrap
- Cropper shows two buttons per row on phones, six on larger screens
- Action button card controls have no dark outline
- Column editing frames show a complete top border, with the controls inside the frame
- Exit on the form action bar saves and exits by default; the arrow beside it still offers both explicit choices
