17-Aug-2026 — export OS Maps routes to GPX and attach them to a walk ref #99

build 834commit 476f4dc

What's new

You can bring a route from the group's OS Maps account onto a walk as a GPX file, or convert several saved routes at once. This page is the user guide: first the login, then attaching a route to a walk, then converting a list of saved routes.

Add the OS Maps login

Open Admin > Settings > System settings, then External Systems and the Maps tab. The OS Maps email and password sit next to the existing API key.

Until those are filled in, a walk with an OS Maps URL cannot be imported. You will see a warning instead of the import button, with a link through to System settings.

Related Links > OS Maps: the URL and link preview are there, but Import is replaced by a warning until the OS Maps login is set up in System settings

Attach a route to a walk

Open the walk and tap edit. In Related Links, open the OS Maps tab.

Paste an explore.osmaps.com/route/... URL. The link preview appears with the OS Maps mark and the route title. An optional title field is there if you want a different label on the walk page.

Once the login is set up, Import from OS Maps appears next to Unlink.

Tap Import from OS Maps. The button shows Importing from OS Maps… while the file is fetched and attached to the walk. You can leave the page; the job keeps running in the background, with the same live progress and end-of-job report as a Walks Manager export.

When it finishes, the walk has a GPX file. Follow this route then appears on the walk page. If the walk has not been saved yet, save it to keep the file.

Unlink removes the OS Maps link from the walk. It does not remove a GPX you have already imported.

Convert several routes at once

From System settings, tap Choose routes to convert, or open Walks Admin > OS Maps Routes.

Tap Load routes from OS Maps to list the routes saved on the account. Search by title, then use Show to filter to imported or not imported. That filter stays in the web address, so you can bookmark a view.

Tick the routes you want, or Select all, then Convert selected to GPX. Imported routes stay marked, so next time you can see what is still to do.

Once a route has been imported, Edit route opens it on the map. You can change the line and save it again without first attaching it to a walk.

Walk Exports still only lists Walks Manager uploads. OS Maps convert jobs show their progress on this page.
