18-Aug-2026 — warn that public Jitsi asks Google or GitHub to start a room ref #357
What's new
The free public Jitsi service now makes the first person sign in with Google or GitHub before a room will start. That is Jitsi's own login, not NGX, and being a committee member here does not make you a Jitsi moderator. The video meetings page says so when the site is still on that public host. Members skip the prejoin screen, and we no longer send an NGX JWT to the public service, which it cannot use.
At a glance
- A warning appears when Video Meetings is still pointed at the free public Jitsi host
- Starting a public room asks for Google or GitHub on Jitsi's screen, not an NGX login
- Point the setting at your own Jitsi host with JWT and committee members start the room automatically
- Members no longer see the Jitsi prejoin page before they join
