Video meetings (#357)
What is new and fixed in the in-app video meetings, from your testing feedback:
Automatic meeting notes. When AI is switched on, the meeting now writes its own notes from the moment it starts, turning what is said and the chat into a tidy set of notes saved for the group. You do not need to turn anything on. A note on privacy: to turn speech into text, Chrome and Edge send the audio to Google, so the sound leaves your device while notes are being taken. Firefox does not do this, so a Firefox user adds their chat but not their voice.
Notes that stay open. Fixed the notes panel that could open and then disappear behind a darkened screen, which left people unable to take notes. The meeting controls no longer cover the notes either.
Real names for guests. Someone invited by email now joins showing their name, worked out from their email address, instead of the word "guest", and they can still change it on the way in.
Tidier controls on phones. In landscape the meeting controls no longer sit across people's faces. They tuck out of the way and come back when you need them, and stay in view on a computer.
Better screen sharing. A shared screen now takes over the main view for everyone, the way it does in Teams, rather than sitting in the grid as though it were just another person.
No more echo when you are in the same room. Two things help here. There is now a "Join without sound" button, so when a few of you are together in one room, only one device carries the sound and the echo goes away. On top of that, the meeting can now notice by itself when another device in the same room is on the call, and offer to switch yours to no sound.
Faster to join. Meetings now start straight away, instead of waiting for the meeting server to wake up.
