# 06-Sep-2026 — let walk leaders and members add walk photos for approval, share albums straight after [#128](https://github.com/nbarrett/ngx-ramblers/issues/128)

## [build 879](https://github.com/nbarrett/ngx-ramblers/actions/runs/34001416059) — [commit 7ae5437](https://github.com/nbarrett/ngx-ramblers/commit/7ae5437132eb28c35fd87e5d7addfd110abc89e4)

## What's new

Until now only a member holding both the walk admin and content admin flags could create a walk's photo album, so a walk leader coming back from their own walk had no way to add pictures, and nobody else could contribute the photos they took. Any walk leader can now create and manage the album for their walk, and, depending on a new walk setting, other members or the public can add their own photos too. Photos added by anyone other than the walk leader or an administrator are saved as drafts, hidden from visitors until the leader or an administrator approves them, so nothing unsuitable can appear on the site unchecked. Every photo now records who added it and when. When you save photos in the guided album workflow the social sharing panel appears straight away, instead of having to come back out of editing to find it. The walk editor can also read a GPX file and offer to fill in the walk type, distance, ascent and start and finish locations, and can generate turn-by-turn directions for the walk in the same way as route pages.

## At a glance

- Walk leaders see "Create album" or "Edit album" on their own walk once it has taken place, with no admin flags needed
- A new Walk Configuration setting, "who can add photos to a walk's album for approval", offers no access, committee, logged-in member or public, and defaults to logged-in member
- Members add photos with an "Add photos" button; their photos wait as drafts and only they, the walk leader and administrators can see them until approved
- Public contributors, where allowed, give their name and email address first, and those are recorded against each photo
- Leaders and administrators see "Review N new photos" on the walk page and a banner on the album page, with Approve, Approve all and Delete on each draft
- When photos are added by someone other than the leader, the walk leader and everyone on walk change notifications receive an email with a link to review them, using a new "Walk photos added" email configuration that can be changed like any other
- After saving photos, leaders and administrators are offered social sharing immediately, then a "Back to the walk" button
- The walk page now says "Promote walk on social media" before a walk and "Share photos on social media" after it, so the two are not confused
- In the walk editor, uploading a GPX file or choosing "Fill details from route" offers the walk type, distance, ascent and start and finish locations found in the file, with a tick box per detail so nothing already entered is replaced without asking
- "Generate turns" on the walk editor produces the same turn-by-turn directions as route pages, ready to follow on the phone
