08-Oct-2026 — draft a preamble for walks that have changed ref #415

build 995 — commit d6bda07

What's new

When you put together a walks newsletter or a request for walk leaders, the composer can draft the opening paragraph from the programme. You set what that intro should do, and which walk-change details to mention, on the email type in Mail Settings, so Compose is the period and Draft. A newsletter covers approved or published walks, and cancelled walks so members hear about them. A walk-leader request covers empty slots, including all future walks on the programme if you choose that period. Walks are named with the leader's first name. For a short period the intro names each walk with its day. For a longer programme it says the weekday and morning or evening once. Distances stay in miles, and a new finish time is given as a time of day. Listed changes always say the old value and the new value. Walk-change details can include the postcode, which is on by default, and the grid reference, which is off by default and formatted the same way as walks on the site. Location names drop police force areas. Walk notes in the draft go through in full, so a long meeting or travel sentence is not cut short. The subject updates from the period and from whether walks, socials, or both are selected. If a previous newsletter would pull in the wrong dates, Ignore last newsletter starts the period from today. The intro ends by asking members to see below for the full details, using walk or walks and social event or events from how many of each are in the mail.
