# 15-Oct-2026 — improve routes, event editing, View as and mobile mail ([ref #151](https://github.com/nbarrett/ngx-ramblers/issues/151), [#430](https://github.com/nbarrett/ngx-ramblers/issues/430))

## [build 1004](https://github.com/nbarrett/ngx-ramblers/actions/runs/38826850989) — [commit 300fa1f](https://github.com/nbarrett/ngx-ramblers/commit/300fa1f4582805e758635829bf0a88395f1b6791)

## What's new

- While recording or following on Android, the pink pointer uses the compass adjustment when compass readings are available and keeps GPS travel bearings unchanged otherwise. Small changes in direction settle smoothly instead of leaving the pointer stuck.
- Stop recording keeps the red dot on the same line as the label on Galaxy phones.
- Walking app home actions (Maps, Upcoming, Near me, Favourites, Import GPX, Record route) keep the icon on the same line as the label, matching iPhone.
- The collapsed map drawer is shorter. While you follow a route, remaining distance is on the left, time left on the right, and the grab handle between them. While you record, elevation is on the left and duration on the right; distance stays on the Recording button.
- Pulling the collapsed drawer further down no longer flashes Pause, Discard and Stop. Drag up or tap the handle to open it.
- On the first-launch group chooser, the Area list stays usable with the keyboard open: the search field takes typing, extra intro copy tucks away, and the list sits in the remaining space above the keyboard.
- On iPad and wide screens, the site navbar stays on one row, with tighter spacing at tablet widths. Drag or swipe it sideways when the links do not all fit; normal link clicks still work.
- On a phone, open [Admin → Inbox](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/admin/inbox "{{siteUrl}}") and choose a conversation to read it full-screen. Scroll the message vertically and use the buttons at the bottom to reply, forward, delete or move between conversations. Tap Inbox to return to the list and its previous layout.
- Wide email content, quoted replies and long addresses wrap within the mobile reader instead of moving sideways. The desktop inbox keeps its existing layout.
- In the route editor, Distance and Estimated time update as you move route points. Choose Miles or Kilometres beneath the figures; your choice is remembered on this device. The compass is hidden while editing.
- Use Save as new beside Save in the route editor to keep the original route and open a separate copy in Maps.
- In a walk’s Copy tab, the walk selector shows its loading state inside the search field and includes mileage in each result. Select the route filter to find walks with either an OS Maps link or an attached GPX route.
- The Copy tab loads a compact list first and retrieves complete details only for the selected walk, reducing the initial wait while preserving the copied content.

- Social event organisers can use the Edit/View split button to update their own event. Choosing another organiser, creating, copying and deleting events remain restricted to social admins. The event page and editor action buttons now include icons, and social-event edit tooltips identify the item as an event.
- View as remembers the selected person or role through navigation and refresh in the current browser tab, even without the query string. Choose Return to my profile to end it; signing out or losing permission also ends it.
