# 20-Oct-2026 — group map centre, typed place names and pin-exact maps ([ref #432](https://github.com/nbarrett/ngx-ramblers/issues/432), [#345](https://github.com/nbarrett/ngx-ramblers/issues/345))

## [build 1011](https://github.com/nbarrett/ngx-ramblers/actions/runs/39346396688) — [commit db8c405](https://github.com/nbarrett/ngx-ramblers/commit/db8c405bbeef106b21ee009479deccbc5becb693)

## What's new

- Locate opens on the group's published Ramblers map centre when no centre is saved in settings, instead of the whole UK.
- Pins on Locate use the same popup cards as walk direction steps, with the list number on the pin after you reorder saved points.
- When you place a start, Locate and the walk editor warn if using the postcode alone would send people somewhere else. The public walk page does not show that warning.
- Drive to the start in Google Maps is a normal related link, in line with Locate the start.
- Back from a single walk uses the group's walks page from the navbar, not a hardcoded [/walks](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/walks "{{siteUrl}}") path.
- In the walk editor, Plot is offered only when the walk has a start pin and no GPX; Edit appears when a route already exists. Plot stays disabled until a start is placed.
- Search still finds a precise pin from Google or a stored place. The wording you typed is kept as the place name, without a postcode glued on the end. If the result name differs, you can keep what you typed or use the search result, on both the Venue and Route tabs. The pin, postcode and grid still come from the result.
- If you drag the start pin and the postcode no longer matches the venue, you can apply the new start postcode to the venue.
- Starting and finishing postcode fields are plain text, with the browser address lookup turned off.
- There is a gap between the postcode and grid fields and the Pin / Google Map toggle.
- Get directions opens Google Maps with the pin as the destination so you can start navigation, rather than a map view with no Directions button.
- Dragging a pin updates the coordinates as you move it, without jumping the cursor or flashing the postcode warning until you drop it.
