Typing localhost switches both sides to the local test ports and turns SSL off, so a laptop can point a mail app at this machine. For a live site, keep the public hostname with IMAP 993 and SMTP 465, both SSL/TLS.\n- When mail applications are switched off, the warning links through to [Admin → Mail Settings → API](https://ngx-ramblers.org.uk/admin/mail-settings?tab=api \"{{siteUrl}}\"). That setting is labelled Allow External Mail Support, and the help text names SMTP 465 and IMAP 993 with SSL/TLS.\n- Large folders in Apple Mail, Outlook or Thunderbird load in batches so the message list does not stall.
