Walk Leaders
Our extensive program depends on our volunteer leaders. We are very fortunate to have such an enthusiastic band of leaders.
Booking a Walk
Walks for be booked with our walks coordinator
We typically run
Long walks (10 -11 miles) on Sundays and/or Wednesdays
Short walks (5 - 6 miles) on Saturdays
Gentle Pace Walks (3-4.5 miles) on alternate Tuesdays
Occasionally there are walks on other days
The normal start time 10:00
We welcome special events, also see our social programme. These don’t necessarily fit with the standard days and times. We can depart from those start times, for example where there are bus or ferry times to consider.
Prior to Covid we ran 5 walks a week, due to a shortage of leaders since lockdown this has not been possible.
New Leaders
Our enthusiastic band of leaders keeps our walking programme running, but to sustain that we need to be new leaders, to replace the existing leaders who drop out. (Inevitably some do drop out, nobody can go on leading for ever!)
How to start leading walks
If you would you like to start leading walks, Ramblers’ online leader training is the first step. To access the leader training please contact our walks coordinator
It might at first seem daunting if you’ve never led a walk before. Most new leaders find it’s not that difficult and very satisfying. Of course walking with such a friendly group means there are plenty of people on hand to help with any minor difficulties. If you are put off by the thought of checking out the walk by yourself. No problem! There are experienced walkers happy to help out by coming with you. Make contact on our walks or contact our walks coordinator
If you would you like to start leading walks, but are in need of a route. No problem! You can start with a walk from one of our group’s walk books or talk some of the more experienced walkers who are happy to help or look at the resources for walkers.
