Bluebells, glorious bluebells

Pilots Wood above Shoreham is a sea of bluebells in spring. We see the chalk cross on the hill en route to Polhill Bank where we may see a few early purple orchids amid the violets before we head up to meander through the woodland floral display. Primroses, celandines, wood anemones (windflowers) and dog's mercury offset the distinctive colour of the bluebells. Our descent brings us back through the village, where there are three pubs and two cafes (including a delightful one at the Aircraft Museum) to choose from for after-walk refreshments.
