Detling and the North Downs

Join us to explore a section of the North Downs on a scenic circular walk from Detling through woodland paths, open countryside and vineyards. We'll skirt the edge of White Horse Wood Country Park, taking in the remains of Thurnham Castle. Leaving the North Downs Way after Civiley Wood, we’ll return alongside Chapel Down’s established vineyards, past the Cobham Manor Equestrian Centre and through Thurnham village.

In the first half of the walk there are several steep ascents and descents, mostly with steps. Two stiles. Walking poles will be helpful, especially as, despite clearing lots of summer vegetation, we are likely to encounter some brambles and nettles. Long trousers are advisable.

Dogs are welcome on short leads.
