Dungeness and Denge Sound Mirror Circular
Meet at the entrance to the RHandDR Dungeness Railway Station (toilets and cafe). Parking is free on the Dungeness estate. We head east out of the Dungeness estate of well made paths past the lighthouses, lifeboat station and Prospect Cottage. Upon reaching Lade we turn onto rougher tracks to reach the 3 Denge sound mirrors. 3 Giant concrete listening structures built 1928-1930. We can not access the island that they are on but the views are impressive from our path. We will spend a few moment here then continue westerly across an exposed area of shingle/pebbles to reach the RSPB. A well made path meanders through the RSPB to reach the Lydd firing range road which we follow to the beach. At the beach we once again turn east walking on shingle and pebbles passing the Nuclear power stations back to the start. The RHandDR has a cafe and the Pilot Inn is also nearby. Please note: the area is exposed to the elements and there are 2 areas of shingle/pebble to walk across. Dogs are not allowed in the RSPB. Sat Nav may direct you up the nuclear power station access road. Please do not follow this but continue along the main road to the Dungeness estate entrance.
