St James Way - Upper Wield to Kings Worthy part 2 - 13 miles
This is the second option of the walk on the 11th July due to the heat.
We will meet at Church of St James's at 09:30. There is a car share option available that will meet at St Marys Church, Kings Worthy at 09:00. If you want to be part of the car share please update the WhatsApp group or please contract me direct to ensure we have enough cars to support it.
This is my favourite of the walks so far. We will head out of Upper Wield initially on the road before going down a country path walking along farms and fields with amazing views all the way to Old Alreseford and our first church and stamp at St Mary's church. We then walk pass the water mill and into New Alresford to St Johns the Baptist church where we can get a stamp. We will also stop for lunch here in the church yard, your welcome to get food from Alresford if you need it. There is also a local toilet here for people to use.
After lunch we will head out of the town and walk through the watercress beds part of the chalk stream as we head towards Ovington. At the Bush Inn I took north way and walked along the river Itchen, if it's flood there is another route but this part of the route is really pretty. If it is hot there is part of the river we can paddle in if we need to cool our feet, but recommend flip flops. We continue walking to St Mary's church for the 3rd stamp of the day and then to Itchen Abbas and the church of St John the Baptist and a stop for a drink and something to eat if needed.
The last stage is across fields with lots of view, there is a filed of cows we need to go through, there isn't another easy way. We go under the M3 before coming up to Kings Worthy and the last church of St Mary's where the bus stop is for any one needing to go to Winchester Train station, it's £3 and about 15 mins. There is the Cart and Horse pub which is 4 mins from the church if people want to have a drink before heading off.
If you can't do this part of the walk and would like to do it another time, i am happy to send you the maps and support you doing this.
