A walk around historic Edenbridge

A pleasant walk through the centuries as we pass through iron age, Roman, mediaeval and later sites with extensive hilltop views and woodland and river valley walking.

We will explore the mediaeval high street which runs along the Roman road as far as the Old Stone Bridge before we cut off into the water meadows towards Old Barn Farm. From here, we rejoin the Roman road before leaving again to walk past Christmas Place and through the open fields with views across the valley to the Greensand Ridge. We climb up to the iron age Dryhill Fort where we go off the path to get to the best preserved section of the walls, and look south towards the High Weald.

Our return from the Fort takes us past Starborough Castle and along the banks of the river Eden before we re-enter Edenbridge and those who wish may reward themselves in one of the two old pubs or cafes.

We will have a picnic lunch stop along the way.
